Secretive putter grips

Tiger Woods is synonymous with Nike's swoosh. Thirteen of his 14 clubs are made by Nike, and he's outfitted by the company from head to toe. The lone exception is his Scotty Cameron putter. But the grip on King Arthur's Excalibur isn't made by either company, it's made by Ping. (Woods used a Ping Anser for years as a junior golfer.)

While going through images of Ernie Els recently, I noticed the Big Easy, who uses an Odyssey putter, is also using a Ping grip. (Click on either image for a closer look.).

If you want to get the same look on your flat stick, consider buying a Ping Blackout. As the name implies, the logo on this replacement grip matches the black color of the grip itself, so it's barely visible.

At $4.99 on golfsmith.com, the price of this grip is well within your reach.

Now, that is quite an interesting observation. It seems Nike is sponsoring Tiger Woods. A grip for $5,now that's a great deal.

the grip has such good shape

"Dude, seriously. Are you that much of a poseur that you need to buy the grip that Tiger uses? And have it blacked out, as well?"

I believe "blackout" is the name of the grip made by Ping so I'm not too sure why you're blasting the people here who look towards the pro tour golfers to see what may work for amateurs or casual players.

I also thought poseur was spelt poser :). Before blasting people please get your language straight. Otherwise you look like a goofball.

its goes to show you, even though, he might have people tailor making all his things, and his putter heads, but with the grip its personal, and everyone has his own preference,
so instead of thinking you should just get a particular brand, stick with the one you feel most comfortable with

The comment that Tiger Woods can play any club he wants is inaccurate. He can only play Nike's, unless it's in his contract as an exception. He could, however, be the spokesman for any company he chooses. Those are not the same issues.

I have used a number of putters over a 20-year golfing career, and Ping's grip is by far the best of the standard sized group. I don't know what it is, it's just better. Forget the logo. It's just better.

Kurt,

unless it's in pristine condition, a famous putter used by a famous player with the famous player's autograph on it, it's probably worth about the same as any putter that's available now. In other words, worthless steel that ought to be recycled. Hahahahahahahaha

who really cares...pointless information

I have a Ping Anser ca:1970 from Phoenix. What do you think it's dollar worth is? And what do you think an Anser from Scottsdale is worth?

I have used my Ping Anser putt for 30 years. I have the same Ping grip, too. I have tried a few other putts from time to time. But, I always go back to the Anser.

Black sharpie works too!

That is interessting DJ. So in fact it doesn't matter who is sponsering Tiger, it matters who will pay the most.
I wonder if those sponsers calculate some kind of ROI on such a sponsorship.

Peter

^I think it's merely an observation, and a good one at that. In today's money and sponsor driven world, it's curious to know what type of contracts the best players have with their sponsors. Obviously Tiger has the best contract in that he gets mega-paid and gets to use any club from any manufacturer he wants, and he still gets paid.

Dude, seriously. Are you that much of a poseur that you need to buy the grip that Tiger uses? And have it blacked out, as well? Man, some of you cats are suckers. How about taking a putting lesson and not worry about what Tiger and Ernie do. Good Grief.
