Adam Scott's British Open clubs

Posted at 3:22 PM by David Dusek | Categories: Adam Scott , British Open , Titleist

Adamscott_600x450SOUTHPORT, ENGLAND -- Heading into this British Open championship, Sergio Garcia was tagged as the "Best Player to Have Never Won a Major." And after his near-miss last season at Carnoustie and win at The Players, it makes sense.

But Adam Scott is ranked higher (No. 4) than Garcia (No. 7) and possesses one of the best swings in golf. The knock on Scott has always been that his short game and putting don't match the caliber of his long game, but Thursday at Royal Birkdale he posted an even-par 70 to finish just one shot off the lead in a tie for fourth.

Here are the clubs he used:

Driver:                   Titleist Pro Titanium 905R (8.5°)
Fairway woods:      Titleist 906F4 (13.5°)
Hybrid:                   Titleist 585H (17°)
Irons:                      Titleist AP2 (2-9)
Wedges:                 Titleist Vokey 200 Series (49°), Spin Milled (55°)
Putter:                   Scotty Cameron for Titleist Newport GSS
Ball:                       Titleist Pro V1

The 905R is the best fairway metal Titliest has ever made. And the 907D2 is one of the worst. I cant blame Scott and many Titlist players for sticking with the 905R.

You're assuming latest is greatest. Don't believe all the advertising. He tried the D2 and didn't like it so went back. Who knows, the 909 might not last either.

He is not using the 905R, I was at Birkdale on Thursday and watched Scott on the range before he went out, he has a new Titleist 909 driver in his bag and he was bombing it one after another even into stupid wind. I think Jim Furyk is using the sam driver having switched from the Tylormade R7 Superquad

He's not using the MidSlant Newport GSS this week, we switched to what looks like a Studio Select Tour Newport (2?).

Most of Titleist tour staff is still playing the 905R, many of them have not switched to the 907D2, personally i found the difference minimal.... Ernie Els plays a somewhat older FT-5 model and Tiger plays the Sasquatch driver from two series ago because he likes the clubs more traditional clubhead shape, even though the newer versions are slightly longer... its all about personal preference with tour players

Can you believe this guy's still playing the 905R? Can that be right? The 905 is at least three years old. It's replacement, the 907, is a year old itself.
