TaylorMade introduces r7 Limited driver

Posted at 11:18 AM by David Dusek | Categories: Drivers , TaylorMade

R7_limited_600 TaylorMade announced today that a new driver, the r7 Limited, will be released on September 15. Like previous r7 models, the Limited features a system of movable weights that allow golfers to change the playing characteristics of the driver. (Click on the top image for more detailed look.)

The club comes with one 16-gram weight and two 1-gram weights. Placing a 16-gram weight in the heel promotes a draw; putting it in the toe promotes a fade.

According to TaylorMade, the Limited promotes a change of up to 35 yards from side-to-side, seven yards wider than the range of the r7 SuperQuad. It is also longer from front to back than the SuperQuad, with a lower center of gravity, which TaylorMade says will make it easier to hit high, long drives. In addition, the TaylorMade r7 SuperQuad and CGB Max drivers have a draw bias, the Limited Edition has a neutral face.

R7_le_sole_600x600A special version of the r7 Limited is being made in conjunction with Patriot Golf Day, which will take place over Labor Day weekend. (Click on  bottom image  for a better look.) During that time, golfers across the United States will be encouraged to contribute $1 when they play at designated courses. All the funds will go to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships for families of soldiers who have been disabled or killed in the line of duty.

The Patriot Golf Day Web site has a complete list of all the courses participating in every state, and at those clubs you can learn more about how to get one of the few r7 Limited commemorative drivers. TayorMade is donating all the proceeds from the Patriot Golf Day version to the Folds of Honor Foundation.

The r7 Limited will cost $500.

I have been playing the r7ltd for about 2.5 months now/had the Tour Burner...best driver I've hit.(shoot in the 70/low80's) Have it set to the netural position, but is still easy to draw/pentrating ball flight. The movable weights is a plus depending on golf design set-up. Also a plus vs T/Burner is the shaft...a real winning driver in my book.

I recently bought this driver off Ebay with the cheaper Graphite Design YSQ shaft. I've played both TM Burners, and the Superquad. All are great. This R7 Limited feels a little longer and it's as easy to hit as the Burners. But it sure ain't twice as good as the Burner, for the money. TM knows there are guys like me chasing technology, and have probably got a new driver out just since I started this post. They've put out at least 10 different drivers in the last 2-3 years. They make every other company try and keep up with them. But I would rather they wait a couple of years until they come up with something really better before spewing another clone into the market place. With the economy going south, my guess is they won't be selling many $500 drivers for long.

To all of the naysayers, this is a totally new design for the R7 taken from the CBG Max driver. The difference is this driver is for faster swing speeds versus the CBG Max which is for slower swing speed players. This is a very nice driver which looks good at address due in part to its 440cc head and mid height face. Sets up square. The sound of the ball off of the face is much more pleasant then R7's of the past. The shaft alone in this club - Matrix Excon 5.5 is worth almost $ 300 dollars. It is nice to see TM get away from their proprietary shafts which in my opinion suck. Overall a very nice club. For all of you who give a review on a club maybe you should try the club and learn more about them before you shoot your mouths off.

Just finished my first round of golf with R7 Ltd. Straight & Long.I've played the 460, Burner TP, Superquad, Tour Edge Exotics &this one is the better club for me. Easy to align, good feel and solid contact. (11 hdcp) So try it, you might like it.

I love it when TM comes out with a new driver every other month and charges a leg for it. All those TM lovers must be psyched to know that their 500 dollar driver is going to be worth half as much in a few days.

square face? sounds like a "players" version of the cbg max. If they give good shaft options its cheaper than the R7 tp.

What gets me is Callaway started the high price club trend and the other manufacturers followed right along because we, a gullible public, bought this stuff. Last year, TaylorMade had a hit with the Burner at the bargain price of 299 these days. What did they do? Issue a new version and jack the price up 100 bucks. The Limited is the same thing all over again. Take what works well, repackage it, market it is better and jack the price up. Sad thing is, there are a lot of golfers who will buy them.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR WILLINGNESS TO TRUST THOSE THAT DESIGN&DELIVER GREAT CLUBS TO US? I'M WILLING RATHER TO BELIEVE THAT TAYLOR MADE DOES DELIVER WHAT THEY PROMISE.

In response to Jeb - all the major companies promote gimmicky equipment. And yes, that means even your beloved Titleist. Remember the "limited" Vokey wedges for $250?. How about Scotty Cameron and his "Limited Editions" every year - he just rehashes old designs, stamps "Holiday 2007" on it, and now his Ping Anser copy is worth $600? Please. I only wish this site would provide real product reviews and information rather than these glorified ads.

The guys at Taylor Made really know how to play games.

That club should help me break my back and my bank. Will I get charity help when that happens?

looks like a killer driver. know that I can
kill the ball with this driver. I would set it
up for a fade, then try to turn it over with
everything I had.

GIMMICK!!! dont waiste your money buy Titleist!!!!!

The word "Limited" alone costs a couple hundred dollars more? Oh shucks! Why not?
