Kostis says Casey will swap 3-woods at Augusta

Posted at 4:34 PM by David Dusek | Categories: Masters, Nike, Paul Casey

Paul Casey 3-Wood I spoke with Peter Kostis this morning and learned that Paul Casey—whom Kostis coaches—will be making a small equipment adjustment at next week's Masters.

Casey, who uses a 13° Nike SQ Sumo II 3-wood, will use a lower-lofted 3-wood at Augusta National.

Kostis says that for Casey, who averages 295 yards off the tee on the European Tour, there really are not going to be any shots at the Masters that would require him to play a 3-wood from the fairway. However, Kostis says that Casey hits his strong 3-wood almost as far as his driver, but he can shape the ball off the tee much more easily with it.

Specifically, Casey will likely hit a 3-wood off the tee on the 5th hole, the 10th, the 13th and the 14th. Kostis said that the only place where Casey and big hitters might play a 3-wood off the turf would be on the second shot, up the hill, on the par-5 eighth hole. Be sure to check in frequently next week to learn more about the equipment being used at Augusta National by the game's best players.
