Ian Poulter tweets about groove changes

Posted at 2:10 PM by David Dusek | Categories: Grooves , Ian Poulter , Twitter

Ian Poulter Here is an interesting steam of Tweets from Ian Poulter's Twitter page:

Ianjamespoulter i tested the new grooves with vokey in feb. what a difference no spinnnnnn. the usga are insane to make us change so quickly.

Ianjamespoulter i guess they were all bored sitting around that table drinking coffee and smoking cigars... get a life let us have fun on the course.

Ianjamespoulter it will cost the manufacturers millions to develop and distribute to all the stores global, so you AMs can get them before open qualifying.

Ianjamespoulter Our irons already comply, but wedges need to change for start of the year. all the best... thanks R&A and USGA softer balls here we come.

Like with everything else so far, manufacturers are going to find ways to compensate within the bounds of the new rules. They'll develop some new alloy or some new way to cut the grooves which gives back the spin. It happened when driver COR was regulated, when the ball was regulated, and now with the new groove regulations. In no time, people will have forgotten all about these new rules and the pros will be backing up the ball 20 feet again.

Wow, a company would rather take the bad advice from it's advisors/lawyers than the good ideas of people actually in the know (or "on the floor")? I feel a little better that that happens even with an entity like the USGA... but only a little.

Just wait until the USGA runs out of club options and finally starts getting into ball design. They must be listening to their lawyers and not players like Nicklaus, someone who's called for that for years.

he is a douche bag

Trying to "protect" par is stupid, just make the courses longer. I think 9000 yards will just about do it.
