Lucas Glover's U.S. Open Clubs

Posted at 7:14 PM by David Dusek | Categories: Lucas Glover , Nike , Prototype Equipment , U.S. Open , Winner's Bag

Lucas-Glover-Bethpage-Putter Lucas Glover used a Nike prototype putter that is similar to the one used by Paul Casey, Trevor Immelman, Michelle Wie, Justin Leonard and Stewart Cink.

As I wrote previously in this blog, it's a heel-toe weighted Anser-style blade, that features a series of red ribs on the face. The ribs are designed to help to reduce skidding on the greens and get the ball rolling faster.

I've seen five different versions of the Nike prototype putters and each was heel-shafted; I did not see a high-MOI Nike prototype putter with the red ribs in the face.

Here are the clubs that Lucas Glover used to win the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black:

DRIVER: Nike SQ Sumo2 Tour (9.5°) with Matrix Apache Ozik shaft
FAIRWAY WOODS: Nike SQ II (13°, 19°)
IRONS: Nike CCI Forged (3-PW)
WEDGES: Nike SV Tour (52°, 60°)
PUTTER: Nike prototype
BALL: Nike ONE Tour D

You've got the wrong shaft on his driver and the wrong loft on his wedges. He used a Matrix Ozik XCon shaft and his wedges had 54 and 59 degrees of loft and his putter was a Nike Oven prototype not just a prototype.

previous comment should say would NOT read anything into...

I would read anything into Glover not playing the VR line. It simply means that pros like to change clubs less than manufacturers like to put out/sell new models.

David Dusek...I am a US Open outter collector...can you give me more descriptive details on the putter Glover used? What grip? Who has the red-reb version for sale?...thanks...RB

Nike 1'st t2 t6 t10 t16 pretty impressive. Good golfers more than it was the equipment. But Nike maybe close to being really legit. I heard Lucas got a free fairway wood with that driver.

i hate phil, but he was talking about steel shafts in drivers and weak lofted irons, not quality.

Ummm.... When Phil criticized Nike's equipment, he was right at the time. That was way back in 2003. Nike has come a long way since then. You must really hate Phil to even think that was worth bringing up.

Looks like Lucas won with sub-standard equipment right Phil? Right?? Funny how Phil's superior golf equipment didn't get him a 'W' here.

No 56 degree sand wedge?

Duval is using the Nike Victory Red Forged Blades (3-PW) with True Temper Project X 6.5 shafts. So I guess it is a mix and match for the guys. For some it is not all or nothing. Whatever, the Nike clubs and doing a lot of talking - whether it is Casey, Glover, Tiger in 2009.

Wow- yet another Nike guy not using the Vr line. The CCI's are how old, and yet, he's still gaming them? Wow.
