« Tiger Woods makes equipment adjustments at Memorial | Back to Main | High-Spinning Davis Love weighs in on grooves issues »

Tiger Woods's Memorial winning clubs

Posted at 7:33 PM by David Dusek | Categories: Drivers , Nike , Tiger Woods , Winner's Bag

Tiger-Woods-Nike-Golf-Clubs Tiger Woods made a significant driver adjustment at Memorial. He switched to a 10° driver and proceeded to hit 87% of the fairways for the week. On Sunday, Woods was perfect off the tee, hitting all 14 fairways.

Woods did not change the shaft in his driver, or his golf ball, so the added loft should have created more backspin and lift on his drives. Woods said the change caused a slight sacrifice in distance, but he still averaged 298.4 yards per tee shot.

Here is a complete list of the clubs Woods used to win at the Memorial.

Driver:  Nike SQ Dymo (10°) with a Mitsubishi Diamana White Board 83x shaft
Fairway woods:  Nike SasQuatch Sumo (15°, 19°) with Mitsubishi Diamana Blue Board 103g shafts
Irons:   Nike Forged Blades (3-PW) with True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 shafts
Wedges:  Nike Victory Red (56°), SV (60°) with True Temper Dynamic Gold S400 shafts
Putter:  Titleist by Scotty Cameron Newport 2
Ball:  Nike One Tour

Interesting that no one has mentioned Tiger's change to a 10* lofted driver. It took me many years to come to the conclusion that we amateurs simply use the wrong driver specs: 9.5* stiff drivers are the norm. Us 'macho' men feel a 10.5* driver emasculating much less a regular flexed one. Last year I switched to a 10.5* (though still stiff) TaylorMade TP and have since shaved 8 strokes off my hdcp by just hitting more fairways. Thanks to Tiger (and Jim F: 10.5, and Vijay: 10.5) we can all hit more fairways and greens.

No way is he losing a Beth Page if he continues to hit fairways off the tee like he did a Memorial. Give him some old wilson staffs, a bullseye putter and persimon driver and he still wins by 3.

if tiger drives anything like he did this week he'll win at bethpage

Tiger was playing his old Nike Forged blades (very sweet clubs) if I was him I would keep playing those.

LOL @ TDA- the only club in his bag that's a Vr is the 56*. What's the deal with that? Just goes to show that even with the equipment contracts, no one truly plays exactly what they're endorsing. At least in Tiger's case, it was still within the Nike line.

Expect to see Nike Victory Reds 70% off at Golf Warehouse.com.

I guess Tiger will have to rip off that glued-on metal Victory Red logo from his cap before the US Open.

I guess the Nike Victory Red line is a one and done club?

So... where are the wankers that said Dub can't hit it straight? or He should use some other OEM other than Nike? or He and Haney are done?
SUCK IT!!!

correction... if he can keep doing that. gosh darn't i need to start proofreading. i type too fast

yeah he was just awesome today. he could play with anything and win. he is so strong and has such a great swing. i was really really impressed with his driving. if he cant keep doing that, he will definitely be hard to beat. congrats tiger and go get that victory at bethpage. ill be rooting for you!

Give this guy a hickory-shafted niblick and a Snoopy putter and he'd find a way to win.
