First Look: New Srixon Z-Star ball
The Ricoh Women’s British Open kicks off this week at the famed Old Course at St. Andrews. Will Inbee Park, the game’s most dominant player, capture her fourth consecutive “Grand Slam” event? Park is chasing history using a new Srixon Z-Star ball that’ll be available to consumers starting on August 8 (of course, she’s been playing it all season).
Geared for a range of swing speeds, the ball’s large, soft core—softest in the center and firmest toward the perimeter—generates more distance than the current Z-Star. A new dimple pattern creates more uniform surface coverage for improved flight consistency. Its “Spin Skin” coating increases friction between the club and ball by 20 percent for added spin on shots around the green. The ball comes in white or yellow (Inbee opts for white).
In addition, Srixon plans to debut the Z-Star XV ball, for 100+ mph swing speeds, which is firmer and spins less off the driver. $45/dozen.(Photo: Michael Chini)
