First Look: Scotty Cameron Futura X Dual Balance putter

Posted at 3:15 PM by Coleman McDowell | Categories: Scotty Cameron, Titleist

The putter Adam Scott used to win the 2013 Masters has gained a little weight.

The Scotty Cameron Futura X Dual Balance mallet provides more stability through the stroke than the Futura X due to its counterbalance design.

"We’ve found, through our last 20 years of high speed video research with tour players, that the best putters in the world point the butt of their putter at their midsection throughout the putting stroke,” Scotty Cameron said. “From address, to the backstroke, at impact and through the forward stroke — the butt of the putter remains pointed to about the same 1- or 2-inch circle in their belly area."

It follows that a 50-gram weight is inserted in the butt of the putter shaft to assist in keeping it pointed at a player’s midsection throughout the stroke. Additionally, the clubhead is 50 grams heavier than the Futura X at 400 grams. The milled aluminum head features four stainless steel weights: two 20-gram weights on the rear balance bar and two 10-gram sole weights close to the face. The extra mass keeps players’ hands steady at takeaway, discourages quick hands during the stroke and boosts head stability through impact.

The standard length of the Dual Balance checks in at 38”, three inches longer than a standard putter. Adding three inches to the length allows for more counterbalance effect which leads to a higher MOI. A slightly thicker 15-inch grip comes standard with an outline of suggested hand-placement at 35 inches. Of course, the longer grip allows for multiple hand placement options. The Futura X Dual Balance is available now so you can pick one up in time for the weekend. Price: $399.
