Ashworth Pays Tribute to Justin Rose and Retief Goosen's U.S. Open Wins With Commemorative Shirts

Posted at 10:45 AM by Michael Chwasky

Ashworth has released the second and third limited-edition shirts in their Majors Series, both of which were inspired by U.S. Open victories (the first shirt celebrated Fred Couples' Masters win). Of the two new models, the first commemorates Justin Rose's win at at Merion last year and is limited to 281 units. The shirt features Rose's signature inside-the-back neck area and has white contrast piping on the chest and sleeve cuff.

“I wore Ashworth when I won my first major championship at Merion and I’m proud to wear it on tour every week,” said Rose. “I’m honored by this special piece commemorating my U.S. Open Championship and look forward to having it on as I defend my championship at Pinehurst this year.”

The second new model commemorates Retief Goosen's U.S. Open victory at Shinnecock in '04, which was his second U.S. Open win. The shirt has Goosen's signature in the back neck area and contrast coloring on the collar and is limited to 276 units.

“I genuinely love the style and feel of Ashworth Golf apparel,” said Goosen. “To have a golf shirt designed to celebrate my major victory is an honor, and I’m proud to wear it on the tenth anniversary of my second U.S. Open Championship victory.”

Rose and Goosen will wear their respective shirts in the first round of the upcoming U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Both models are available exclusively at for $100.

Ashworth Releases New Wingtip Shoe

Posted at 3:08 PM by Michael Chwasky

Though best known for relatively casual golf shoe designs, Ashworth is taking a step in the traditional direction with the new Encinitas collection. The company's first wingtip model, the Encinitas ($200) is built to be worn both on and off the course and features a lightweight, spikeless outsole, soft midsole and premium leather uppers for maximum comfort. The new model is available in three color options: running white/air force blue/new navy, dark brown/tan brown/air force blue, and black/black/air force blue.

“At Ashworth Golf, we challenged ourselves to create something unique and special for the golfer,” said Masun Denison, Director, Global Product Footwear Marketing, Ashworth Golf. “While the Encinitas draws inspiration from classic footwear, we’ve updated the design details and construction methods to create a product that not only looks great, but has proven performance benefits.”

In addition to the Encinitas, Ashworth has also released their first spiked shoe, the Kingston ($150). Featuring a classic saddle design, seven-cleat outsole, and leather welt construction, the Kingston is also available in three color options: white/tan brown/bordeaux, white/black/azure, and aluminum/iron/ tour white.

Ashworth Major Series Starts With Masters Champion Fred Couples

Posted at 11:14 AM by Michael Chwasky

Ashworth's new majors series apparel collection features a series of six golf shirts ($100 per shirt) that are designed to honor Ashworth major champions including Fred Couples, Justin Rose, Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard, Paul Azinger, and Retief Goosen. The first shirt available, not surprisingly, is one dedicated to '92 Masters champion and long time Ashworth player Fred Couples, and is limited to only 275 units (Freddie's winning score, not coincidentally).

“I’ve worn Ashworth on tour since they started in 1987 and believe it’s the best shirt ever made,” said Couples. “Wearing Ashworth is very special to me and I’m excited to wear this new golf shirt at The Masters, where I won my first championship.”

Othe features of the Fred Couples Ashworth major series shirt include a button that displays the date of Freddie's Masters victory, a limited edition majors series patch on the right sleeve, and Freddie's signature embroidered on the inside of the neck. Look for him to be wearing the shirt in the opening round on Thursday this week.

Cool New Looks from Puma, Adidas and Ashworth

Posted at 11:43 AM by Jessica Marksbury

Sunny Ponte Vedra, Fla. is the pefect venue to showcase the latest spring and summer looks from Puma, Adidas and Ashworth. First up: check out Rickie Fowler's Thursday-Sunday looks for the Players Championship:

Adidas Golf ambassadors Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia and Jason Day will be sporting the brand's new color-block designs in shades of gray, blue and pink. Unlike the Masters, we won't see the same shirt on each player every day. Instead, they'll rotate the designs Thursday-Saturday. On Sunday, all three players will don the pink shirt not only in honor of Mother's Day, but to help raise awareness for breast cancer.

Of course, every shade of pink needs a shoe to match, and thankfully, Adidas has that covered with a limited edition Adizero Tour "Pink Out" shoe for Sunday's round:

TaylorMade to Acquire Ashworth for $72.8 million

Posted at 3:53 PM by David Dusek

The stock market may be more erratic than Phil Mickelson's putting, but TaylorMade-adidas Golf has decided that the time is right to make a deal. Today the company announced it is buying the Ashworth apparel company for $72.8 million, or $1.90 per share.

Ashworth is known for its classic lines for both men and women, and over the years the company has outfitted players like Fred Couples and Chris DiMarco. Ashworth was recently announced as the official outfitter of the 2009 Solheim Cup team.

Clothing by Adidas tends to focus on technologically advanced fabrics and performance, so the Ashworth brand could give TaylorMade-adidas a potent one-two punch in pro shops and golf specialty stores.

In a media release, Mark King, the president and CEO of TaylorMade-adidas Golf, said: "We are excited to bring Ashworth alongside our industry-leading TaylorMade and adidas Golf brands." According to the release, the deal should be finalized by the end of 2008.
