Bag of the Day: Kenny Perry

Posted at 10:15 AM by David Dusek

Kenny Perry was one of the first players to start using TaylorMade's Raylor rescue club when he put it into play at Bethpage during the 2009 U.S. Open. With a V-shaped sole, it helped him get the ball out of the wet, thick rough. But as the PGA Tour veteran prepares for the 2010 season he has pulled the club out and gone back to using the TaylorMade Rescue TP with FCT he'd previously been using. Like the Raylor, the Rescue TP has a weight screw in the back to help launch the ball high, but the Rescue TP also allows golfers to adjust the face into one of eight different settings to encourage specific ball flights.

According to TaylorMade, Perry also replaced his 14.5° TaylorMade Burner 3-wood with an older 13° TaylorMade V Steel in some post season events.

Bag of the Day: Vijay Singh

Posted at 9:42 AM by David Dusek

According to a source at Cleveland Golf, Vijay Singh has been testing a few of the companies newest woods, as well as a previous-released ball, as he gets ready for the 2010 season.

He is experimenting with a new Launcher DST driver, which designed to be lighter than almost every other driver on the market, so it should increase Singh's swing speed and add yards off the tee. Cleveland says Singh is also trying the DST fairway woods too.

But what is most interesting is that Singh seems to be practicing with a different ball. He played with the Srixon Z-Star X through the end of the 2009 season, but has been using a slightly-softer Srixon Z UR ball recently. With the new groove rule changes ready to go into effect for the pros on January 1, many of the game's best players are switching to softer golf balls to help them compensate for the reduced spin they will get around the greens with their new wedges.
