Bag of the Day: Pablo Martin

Posted at 9:08 AM by David Dusek

By winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa on Sunday, the first event on the European Tour's 2010 schedule, Spain's Pablo Martin became the first golfer to win on that tour as both an amateur (2007 Estoril Open de Portugal) and as a professional. Martin's ranking jumped from No. 488 to No. 276.

Not only is there an excellent story inside by Michael Bamberger about how Dave Stockton helped Mickelson get his putting touch back, but there's also a detailed instruction article from Stockton on his five secrets for holing more putts.

Bag of the Day: Anthony Kim

Posted at 6:59 AM by David Dusek

The man they call "AK" has recently switched from using a Nike SQ Dymo 380 prototype driver to the company's new Victory Red Tour driver. The Dymo 380 prototype was never made available to the public, but with a small head than the standard 460cc Dymo driver, it allowed pros like Kim the ability to work the ball effectively.

As we wrote earlier this week in The Shop, the Victory Red Tour sports a 400cc head but lacks Nike's adjustable-face technology found in the Victory Red STR8-Fit Tour driver. Both models are designed to allow better players more forgiveness on drives hit low in the face and toward the heel.

Ross Fisher won the European Tour's Volvo World Match Play Championship on November 1, defeating Anthony Kim 4 & 3 in the 36-hole final. In February at the WGC-Accenture World Match Play Championship in Tucson, Ariz., the Englishman made it to the semifinal round before losing to countryman Paul Casey. Based on those results, the United States Ryder Cup knows that if Fisher can make the European squad, he'll give the Americans all they can handle.
