Videos: Westwood on putters and Nike pros on the SQ MachSpeed Black driver

Posted at 3:58 PM by David Dusek

YouTube is loaded with lots of golf equipment videos. I've decided to start dropping interesting clips into The Shop blog starting, well ... today. No commericals allowed, but since each of the YouTube videos will be produced by the manufacturers themselves, you can expect a fair amount of chest thumping.

First up, Ping  staff pro Lee Westwood gives you some basics on finding the ideal putter.

Next, Nike staff pros talk about the new SQ Machspeed Black driver.

Lee Westwood Extends Endorsement Deal with Ping

Posted at 7:23 AM by David Dusek

England's Lee Westwood has been on a nice run lately. He won the Dubai World Championship two weeks ago, his second victory of the season, and clinched the European Tour's money title for the year. The win lifted him to No. 4 in the world rankings. Here in the United States, before the start of the Chevron World Challenge, Westwood signed a new contract to extend his endorsement deal with Ping Golf. The photo below shows Westwood (center) signing the documents while flanked on the left by his manager, Chubby Chandler, and Ping Golf's Chance Crosby on the right.

While the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, Westwood’s headwear will now prominently display the company's branding on the front and back and he'll continue to use a Ping bag.

In a statement released by Ping, Westwood said, "I've been with Ping since my junior golf days." He added, "Whether I'm in Europe, America or another part of the world, they look after my equipment needs on a daily basis. Their service is unmatched."

Westwood uses 14 Ping clubs and you can see a complete list of them here.

Bag of the Day: Lee Westwood

Posted at 9:21 AM by David Dusek

In October, England's Lee Westwood won the 2009 Portugal Masters. It was his first tournament win since winning the 2007 British Masters and helped him reach No. 5 in the World Golf Rankings. His win at the European Tour's season-ending Dubai World Championship moved his ranking up to No. 4 and gave him the distinction of becoming the first winner of the Race to Dubai (former the European Order of Merit).

Lee Westwood's U.S. Open clubs

Posted at 6:05 PM by David Dusek

Westwoduso_600x450SAN DIEGO — After shooting 70 on Saturday to get himself into Sunday's final pairing with Tiger Woods at the U.S. Open, Lee Westwood was asked what he needed to do to prepare for the final round. "If you let it get to you, you have problems. But I'm a fairly calm person and fairly level-headed, so I'll just stick with my own game plan and try to do the things I'm doing."

What he'd been doing was avoiding big numbers, hitting fairways (60% so far this week) and putting very well (1.59 putts per green in regulation).

Westwood missed getting into the Monday playoff with Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate by only one shot. It was his best performance in a major to date.

Here is a list of the clubs in Westwood's bag at Torrey Pines.

Driver                   Ping G10 (9.5°)
Fairway wood     Ping G10 (14° and 18.5°)
Irons                     Ping i10 (3-PW)
Wedges               Ping Tour W (54° and 58°)
Putter                  Ping G5i UG-LE
