Cobra unveils ‘Sunday Orange’ AMP driver

Posted at 10:39 AM by David Dusek

There was a time when drivers were like Model T Fords—you could have one in any color your liked as long as it was black. But with the release of a Sunday Orange version of its AMP driver, Cobra has added yet another hue to the rainbow of driver options.

The special edition AMP driver, inspired by Cobra staffer Rickie Fowler's love for wearing orange on Sundays, comes standard with the same shaft Fowler uses—an orange Mitsubishi Diamana White Board. An orange Lamkin 3Gen grip completes the monochromatic look,

The 460-cc titanium head is identical to the previously released AMP driver and features a face that is slightly asymmetrical and designed to be more forgiving on shots hit high in the toe and low in the heel areas. The head can also be adjusted into one of three different face-angle settings using a torque wrench to help players create more of a draw or fade bias.

The Sunday Orange edition AMP will be available in July at select Cobra retailers. You can also buy the club on The company is only making the club in right-hand models in 9.5° and 10.5° lofts and the price will be $499.

Ping selling 5,000 all-pink G20 drivers to support Bubba Watson's charity

Posted at 7:59 AM by David Dusek

Since Bubba Watson began swinging a pink Ping G20 driver at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in January, Ping has donated $10,000, plus $300 for every 300-plus-yard drive Watson has struck using the club, to the "Bubba & Friends Drive to a Million" initiative. That brings the company's total donation to $61,600. Watson and Ping hope to raise $1 million and give it to Phoenix-area charities chosen by the company with Watson's support.

On Tuesday morning, Ping announced that it will sell 5,000 limited-edition all-pink G20 drivers for $430 in local pro shops starting on June 1. Five percent of the proceeds from the sale of the drivers will go to "Bubba Long in Pink. Driven by Ping," which is the company's portion of "Bubba & Friends Drive to a Million."

"Bubba is already approaching the target of 300 drives of 300 yards or longer, and we wanted a way to provide ongoing support for his generous cause," said John A. Solheim, Ping Golf's chairman and CEO, in a media release. "Even prior to his win at the Masters, golfers were requesting pink G20s. Through word of mouth, social media, and phone calls, the interest was extremely high. We want to satisfy that demand while bringing even more visibility to Bubba's goal of raising $1 million."

In GOLF Magazine's March issue, the G20 was reviewed alongside several other game-improvement drivers. Testers said it was, "One of the top-rated models. A worthy descendant to a long line of great drivers." You can read the complete review here.

The pink G20 drivers will be available in right-handed 9.5°, 10.5°, and 12° models and 10.5° for left-handers. Each will come with a pink headcover and a pink Ping TFC 169D shaft labeled, "Bubba Long in Pink. Driven by Ping." A ladies 12° model will also be available.

Limited Edition Callaway Diablo Octane Drivers

Posted at 2:28 PM by David Dusek

Callaway is offering an all-black, Limited Edition Diablo Octane Tour driver, the same club used by Fredrik Jacobson, who won the Travelers Championship two weeks ago, and Trevor Immelman, the 2008 Masters champion.

If you decide to put this club in play, expect it to perform like any other Diablo Octane Tour. Both drivers feature a 450 cc head made with Forged Composite, a lightweight carbon material that allows engineers to make lighter, stronger and more-powerful clubs, according to the company.

There will only be 5,000 of the drivers made, all right-hand models with 9.5 degrees of loft. To complement the all-black head, the club will come with a black, 45 1/2-inch Project X 7C7 shaft, along with a black-and-white Golf Pride New Decade grip.

To get your hands on one of the limited-edition drivers, which will cost $379, contact your local Callaway dealer. You can see a list of them here.

Cobra releasing limted edition white S3 driver

Posted at 4:12 PM by David Dusek

Ian Poulter won the Hong Kong Open last fall using a very unique driver, a white Cobra ZL Limited Edition. The company made 500 of them, and Poulter, after being presented with one, decided that instead of putting it on his wall, he'd put it into play.

Today, Cobra Golf announced the release of a white S3 driver. Like the ZL last year, there will be a limited number available. Read what Golf Magazine ClubTesters think of the S3 driver or go to Cobra's Web site for more information on the club.

White Cobra S3 Driver_600

Posted at 2:11 PM by David Dusek

Odyssey-PT82-Putter In the aftermath of his third win at Augusta, Phil Mickelson's custom Odyssey blade putter became one of the most popular pieces of golf equipment in the world. Minimalist to the core, it was perfection in the eyes of purists everywhere.

So Odyssey decided to release 82 right-handed and 82 left-handed Phil Mickelson ProType putters (replicas of Mickelson's blade) and sell them for $500 each. Remember?

If you missed your chance to get one, or if the price was a tad high, you're in luck: Odyssey is making 3,000 more Phil Mickelson PT 82 putters available for $349. Like the previously released PT 82 putters, these clubs feature a single alignment line, tungsten face insert and dark PVD finish to reduce glare.
