Top 5 'Seinfeld,' 'Curb' golf moments
Sunday night in TV-land is looking prett-y, prett-y, prett-y good.
Curb Your Enthusiasm, starring Seinfeld co-creator Larry David, ends season no. 7 with the long-awaited, decade-in-the-making reunion of the show about nothing (9PM, HBO). Golf has often found its way into both iconic shows. In honor of Sunday's finale, behold my Top 5 Seinfeld/Curb golf moments.
(Bonus moment! David channeled many a frustrated hacker in 2005 when he told Golf Magazine, "When I'm playing, I'm utterly depressed. But when I'm finished playing, I'm thrilled. I'm actually in a better mood because I'm done with my pain and suffering.")
No. 5: Curb Your Enthusiasm, "The Weatherman" (first aired: Jan. 25, 2004) Larry accuses a weatherman of lying about a stormy L.A. forecast for his personal golf gain. Memorable line: Larry, after the meteorologist (Gary Kroeger) blames the balmy weather on the jet stream. "You know what? There's a jet stream of bull---- coming out of your mouth!"
No. 4: Seinfeld, "The Caddy" (first aired: Jan. 25, 1996) Kramer (Michael Richards) turns his off-course decisions over to his looper. Memorable line: Jerry on golf: "No one can believe it when a ball gets bounced off of someone's coconut. You know, you throw a rock in a crowd, that's considered terrorism. But if you have a nice follow-through, that's golf."
No. 3: Curb Your Enthusiasm, "The Black Swan" (first aired: Nov. 1, 2009) Larry gets Medieval on an aggressive black swan at his club, then seeks to cover up the crime. Memorable line: Marty Funkhouser (Bob Einstein) to Larry: "It may have been an accident, but you're a murderer."
No. 2: Curb Your Enthusiasm, "The 5-Wood" (first aired: Feb.1, 2004) A golf tour-de-farce. In a single action-packed episode, Larry steals what he thinks is his Big Bertha 5-wood from a funeral casket and gets booted from his club for the theft (not to mention his unkempt locker). Then he tries to lie his way into a membership at the WASPish, Jewish-unfriendly Beverly Park Country Club. Memorable line: Larry, when asked by Beverly Park's gatekeepers how he sails his (nonexistent) schooner: "Occasionally, I'll bring in a captain, if it's windy."
No. 1: Seinfeld, "The Marine Biologist (first aired: Feb. 10, 1994) David's alter ego George (Jason Alexander) tells the gang about his heroic oceanfront extraction of a Kramer-launched Titleist from a particularly bad lie. Memorable line: George: "The sea was angry that day, my friends. Like an old man trying to send soup back at a deli."
Larry, hurry back for season no. 8.
How'd you like my list? If I do say so myself, I thought it was...
