Less than 48 hours after he blistered Redstone Golf Club with a course-record 63, Adam Scott withdrew from the Shell Houston Open on Saturday morning. Scott, the tournament's defending champion, had complained of feeling poorly Thursday and met with a doctor for an hour after his round before he talked with reporters. He said he had swollen glands and possible strep throat symptoms.

It didn't help that Scott caught the worst of Friday's weather. Playing in the afternoon when a cold front passed through, he was forced to play in the rain for a while, then sit out a nearly two-hour rain delay, and then play some more in chilly, damp conditions.

Saturday morning, Scott came to the course feeling even worse, met with a doctor, and withdrew. He'd shot 76 in the second round and was at 139, seven strokes behind leader Johnson Wagner.
