What's the Matter with Oklahoma?

Posted at 3:10 PM by John Garrity | Categories: Golf Courses , LPGA Tour

BROKEN ARROW, OK. –- Talk about adding insult to injury. A vandal or vandals chemically defaced the seventh green at Cedar Ridge Country Club last night. In addition, a concession tent was torched. The damage, minor as it is, comes after the club lost 300 trees and had 2,000 more damaged by an ice storm that hit Tulsa last December. Cedar Ridge, site of the 1983 U.S. Women’s Open, looks uncharacteristically scruffy for this week’s SemGroup Championship.

Nature, in this case, deserves most of the blame. But what is it that drives Tulsans to burn graffiti into their turfgrass? Nine years ago, a disgruntled member of the greenkeeping staff chemically sprayed swastikas and profanities on the fairways and greens of Southern Hills Country Club. That assault, which cost $2.9 million to repair, has been described as the most expensive act of golf vandalism in history.

The attack on Cedar Ridge pales in comparison, but you have to wonder what point, if any, the vandals were trying to make. The scorched concession tent, near the eleventh green, was dealing chips and soft drinks, not drugs.

Maybe the answer is on the sign attached to the undamaged side of the tent: JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT – PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THE ECONOMICS OF LIFE.

This is one of the most ridiculous titles I've seen in my life. You said it yourself, "Nature, in this case, deserves most of the blame." Let's put down a whole state because of some inclement weather that the people have no control over and some teenagers pulling a prank. Yeah..that sounds like a great idea.

Oiling skateboard wheels? Degenerate Juvenile? Dorian is clearly an intelligent human who knows exactly what it is he speaks of.

Im an assistant superintendant at a course and we had our 7th rutted up by a pickup truck. The guy settled out of court last year and then a few weeks ago came to the shop looking for a job. Just shows that the folks who do this stuff aren't thinking too much.

When the facts surface, like the graffiti, I'll wager the culprets are skateboarding degenerates; unless they put "vote democratic no matter what" in the grass. Then they are old hippies. [DJ probably means degenerate juvenile; that person knows who did it; he is watching the blogs to get more jollies, while they oil their skateboard wheels.]
Also, one does NOT have to be rich to play golf; only richly endowed with honor, responsibility, and respect for life.

I CAN ASSURE YOU THIS ,,''WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND''.....THESE PEOPLE IN TIME WILL GET THIERS..
NOT A HOLY ROLLER OR PREACHING,,YOU WILL REAP WHAT YOU SOW....I BELIEVE THIS !!!!
I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE:NOT FROM DAMAGING GOLF COURSES,,BUT OTHER...THEY WILL GET THIERS....
BET ON IT

DJ is a blithering idiot if he thinks this stuff is ok.

This is the action of one or more persons who have no idea of what propriety might be. Why else would anyone perpetrate such an idiotic act?

eco terrorists folks

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! To the "haves & have nots" poster: Gimme an effing break! You rich people think everyone is out to get you. Get off it. It's just a couple of punk kids who snuck in in the middle of the night. Was it your house they vandalized? No. It was a golf course. Was it your church they vandalized? NO. IT WAS A CONCESSION TENT AND ONE GREEN. "Haves and have nots..."

C'mon...

It's a simple case of the "Have's" versus the "have not's". If I can't have a good time on your venue, I will do what I can to see that you can't either. It's jealousy, and it's sad.

This is Not only Golf Courses but all over Not going to try and understand them. Lock them up Iam sure some one had to see this.We sould NOT turn our head when we see things like this.

It's time that people be held accountable. The problem is that no one is held accountable for their actions. If they are dealt with to the utmost extremes of the law, maybe the next time someone thinks about doing something like this, they will reconsider.

I HAVE NEVER UNDERSTOOD THE MENTALITY OF PEOPLE WHO WISH TO DAMAGE ALMOST EVERYTHING THAT "SOMEONE ELSE" HOLDS DEAR BUT ARE INFURIATED IF SOME THING THEY LOVE IS BOTHERED !!

Earlier this week, someone axes "Lone Fir" at Chambers Bay, and now this.

What is wrong with people?

This is happening is terrible. I don't understand why someone would try to make a point that way.
