The comments from the golf world continue to cover a ton of territory on the loss of Tiger Woods.

From Tiger pal Jason Gore: "Thank goodness we're not in a television contract year."

From Dan Hicks, NBC announcer: "It's one of the greatest accomplishments in sports of all time. I'm certainly not going to put it in the Ben Hogan situation - that remains the biggest medical comeback in golf - but at the same time, it's Tiger. It's crazy how some things motivate you in life. I honestly think if the US Open was not [at Torrey Pines], I'm not sure we would have seen Tiger play. Losing him is going to make us appreciate even more the talent and the juice he puts into every tournament. In a strange way, this is good for the fans. They'll be even more thankful when he's back playing."

From tour veteran Paul Stankowski: "Woe to us when he comes back healthy. I mean, how good is he hurt?"

From tour veteran Harrison Frazar: "To be able to stand there and suck it up and make full swings and pivot on that knee shows how tough he is. I know some guys that can do that for three or four swings, not rounds." 

And, finally, the quiet man, two-time U.S. Open champ Retief Goosen, who wasn't so quiet this week. In case you missed it, his comments before Tiger announced he was done for the year:

"It just seemed that when he hit a bad shot he was in pain and on his good shots he wasn't. You see when he made the putts and he went down on his knees and was shouting, 'Yeah', his knee wasn't sore. Nobody really knows if he was just showing off or if he was really injured. I believe if he was really injured, he would not have played."

And the Goosen backtrack after hearing Woods was having season-ending surgery: "He's got a sore knee, yes, and at the end of the day it's a great achievement by Tiger winning his 14th major. But I really don't know how sore or not his knee was. Obviously, if his knee was really bad he would have withdrawn. I won't say I knew he was faking it. How would I know?"
