Much of Louisville is without power, but Valhalla is ready

Posted at 11:55 AM by David Dusek | Categories: Ryder Cup

Img_0803LOUSIVILLE, Ky. -- Many residents, businesses and hotels are still without power in Louisville two days after the remains of Hurricane Ike blew through the city.

The headline on the front page of Tuesday's Louisville Courier-Journal read, "Over 200,000 Still Lack Power." According to the paper, many residents may not get power back for weeks.

With many streetlights not working, police officers are directing traffic all over town. Most schools in the area are closed and are likely to remain that way all week. More than 100 National Guard troops were activated on Monday to help city officials with the recovery effort.

While the lingering effects of Hurricane Ike will be felt in this area for weeks, Valhalla appears ready to host the matches.

Despite wind damage and downed tree limbs, the club regained power on Monday. Maintenance crews and volunteers have cleaned up the mess, repaired television towers and replaced signs. Both the European and American teams practiced this morning, and spectators lined many fairways.
