World’s greatest course (Trump's) gets go-ahead
Step aside, St. Andrews. Donald Trump has finally won permission to build what he predicts will be the “greatest golf course in the world,” in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Plans for the controversial resort were originally rejected by the local council, because it fears the development will destroy the native dunes and natural charm of the area. But Trump kept fighting, and the BBC today reported that he has won planning approval from the Scottish Government.
Scotland’s Finance Secretary John Swinney said the significant economic and social benefit of the project was a major consideration in his decision. He said the Trump Organization would need to make sure sand dunes and wildlife on the estate at Menie were properly protected.
The approval is a huge win for The Donald, though he's not entirely out of the dunes yet. "Before the development can proceed,” said Anne Robertson, the town council leader, “further applications, which contain the full details of all of the elements of the proposal, will have to be submitted to, and approved by, Aberdeenshire Council.”
The plans call for 36 holes and up to 500 homes. No word yet on whether the other 18 holes will be the second greatest golf course in the world.
