Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin, may have been honoring Tiger's late father, Earl, by naming their son Charlie Axel Woods.

While two of the most famous Axels came from the world of entertainment -- Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose and Detroit police Det. Axel Foley from the Beverly Hills Cop movies -- the child's name likely comes from Elin's Swedish roots, not from those 1980s and '90s heroes of Tiger's suburban California upbringing.

According to the web site BabyNames.com, "Axel" is a Scandinavian name that means "My father is peace."

Woods was famously close with his father, who died in 2006. His daughter, Sam, born in June 2007, got her name because "Sam" used to be Earl's nickname for Tiger.
