O'Hair gets asked 'dumbest question ever'

Posted at 3:37 PM by Alan Bastable | Categories: Masters, Sean O'Hair

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Sean O’Hair was happy enough to discuss the sluggish pace of play at Augusta National today or how tough the course can play in the wind. But when the topic turned to his listless final round at Bay Hill two weeks ago, his mood soured.

“Bay Hill is Bay Hill,” O’Hair said after a second-round 76 left him at even for the tournament, nine off the lead. “I’m in Masters week right now. Everybody keeps asking me that question. But I think it’s the dumbest question ever.”

O’Hair had a five-shot lead over Tiger Woods after three rounds at Bay Hill, but when O’Hair stumbled in with a 73 on Sunday, Woods stormed back and beat him by one. On the 16th hole, O’Hair made a bogey after dumping a 7-iron into the water fronting the green. But that's all behind him, he says.

“It’s not like Bay Hill was my last tournament ever,” O’Hair said today. “You gotta keep trucking. And that’s what I don’t understand about everybody’s [questions]. ‘How does it affect you?’ It doesn’t affect me at all. You learn from it and you try to get better from it.

“You’re not going to win everything,” he continued. “Tiger doesn’t win everything. And if I let something like that bother me I shouldn’t be out here.”

O’Hair was even par for his round today before making double-bogeys on Nos. 7 and 9 en route to a front-nine 40. With the cut line shaping up to be one-over, he is in position to play the weekend. “What everybody wants out here is going into Sunday on the back nine and being in contention," O'Hair said. "Whether it’s one back, one ahead, whatever it may be.”
