Tiger's worst shot came after missing the cut

Posted at 4:05 PM by Rick Lipsey | Categories: British Open , Tiger Woods

Tiger's worst shot of the day wasn't one of the 74 strokes he took on the course at Turnberry. It was his refusal to do a one-on-one interview with TNT after his round.

Tiger's refusal is indicative of a pouty aspect of his persona that often crops up after his rounds, especially bad ones. Tiger knows he's a rock star who draws nearly as much attention as the president. He knows the world wants to see and hear him describe his rounds in a personal interview.

Yes, Tiger gave a group interview on Friday, but he often refuses one-on-one chats, and it bugs me.

He is on track to becoming the first billionaire athlete with the money earned out of his fans' pockets, and the graceful thing to do would be to give the network, and in turn his fans, a couple of minutes -- no matter what he shoots.

this is his 2nd cut since when? tiger youre the best!!!

Tiger often does one-on-one after he loses, and he often chooses not to do so. I think he fulfills his obligations in total every time. You should not judge a man unless you can stand in his shoes. You are not Tiger Woods...more the pity. Try to be more positive and not so negative about things, please.

What Niti, Lloyd and Harro said. How many times has Phil walked away from an interview? A lot (including after losing to Tiger at Doral).

I am so glad he did not even make the cut, He was too big a crybaby to give an interview after posting a horrible score. Hurry up and go away Tiger, you blow. Oh and hahahahahahahaha

At least he gives the group interviews. My understanding is that is better than Shaft does. Everyone has feelings, even near billionaires. So Tiger doesn't like to do pitty-party interviews. Why not interview one of the young guns who need the press more?

Hey Rick, Who cares whether it bugs you about one on one interviewing with Tiger! as long as he answers the press after each round and that's fine with me! I know that you're just a sport writer who may not play a competitive round of golf before that's why you don't how's one feels especially when he just misses cut by 1 stroke. So, leaves the guy alone and go to do one on one with someone else that has a chance to lift jug! - Niti

I'm a tiger woods fan and he hasn't made a dime off of me. i don't buy his products or go to his tournaments, but i am still a huge fan. Therefore, he can do what he wants with his spare time and grant interviews to whomever he wants to. He does not have a personal responsibility to the fan to wallow in his worst outing in a major in years. Maybe you can write about something else and leave Tiger alone to lick his wounds.

Yes, Tiger is undoubtedly the greatest golfer in the world, but that said, he'll always take a back seat to Mickelson when it comes to grace under pressure, in good times or bad.

Key point made: "money earned out of his fans' pockets"
Nothing else need be said.
Right on Rick.

Aww, you sound like you need a violin....get a life, he was already on his plane home to get ready to kick maximum butt at the PGA.

Spoken like a sportswriter with an ax to grind. The game isn't important, silly viewers, it's the opinion of the all-knowing sportswriter that's important. Athlete interviews are idiotic, can't you guys think of anything better than "how did it feel to miss the cut?" "what was going through your mind as you searched for the lost ball?".
