Maybe the sure-fire way to snare big ratings is to have Tiger Woods in Minnesota and in the hunt on Sunday -- and lose. According to Sports Business Journal, CBS's telecast of the final round of the PGA Championship from Hazeltine on Sunday, during which Woods was overhauled by Y.E. Yang, garnered a 7.5/17 overnight Nielsen.

The 7.5 is the highest round this season since the 8.8/21 grabbed by the final round of the Masters, also telecast by CBS. It was the highest-rated PGA final round since the 8.0/17 attained in ’02, when Rich Beem held on to nip Woods, also at Hazeltine. ( In ’07, when Woods won at Southern Hills, the final round rated at 6.8/15.) Not surprisingly, Sunday's telecast got its highest numbers, 11.6/24, from 7:00-7:15 p.m. ET, right around when Yang was hitting his momentous three-wood on 18.
