Daly gets Sony Open exemption

Posted at 8:38 PM by Cameron Morfit | Categories: John Daly

Two-time major winner John Daly was given a sponsors exemption into the Sony Open in Hawaii, Jan. 14-17.

The hard-living 43-year-old who lost over 100 pounds after lapband surgery this year joins a field that also includes fellow sponsors invites Tadd Fujikawa and Dean Wilson, as well as all four major winners from 2009: Angel Cabrera, Lucas Glover, Stewart Cink and Y.E. Yang.

According to a tournament official, Daly's typewritten letter seeking an exemption demonstrated humility and stated that he's finally realized all he should be doing is playing golf.

"If he lives up to one-tenth of what he says in the letter," the official says, "he's going to be incredible."
