Woods won't play Match Play event in Tuscon next week
Looks like Stevie Williams was right after all.
Tiger Woods, on indefinite leave from the PGA Tour since his Thanksgiving night accident and subsequent admission of infidelities, will not be playing the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Tuscon, Ariz., next week.
Australia's The Herald Sunnewspaper reported that Woods would return to the PGA Tour at the Match Play Championship, and this report circulated widely throughout the media. Woods's caddie Williams last week denied Woods would play in the event.
Friday afternoon was the deadline for entering the Match Play Championship. Phil Mickelson announced last month that he would not play in the event. The four No. 1 seeds in the 64-player match-play tournament are Steve Stricker, Lee Westwood, Jim Furyk and Martin Kaymer.
