Reactions to Tiger Woods Announcement

Posted at 2:57 PM by Golf.com | Categories: Tiger Woods

Here are some of the reactions to Tiger Woods's announcement on Tuesday.

Arnold Palmer: "He expressed his regrets for not being able to play [next week at Bay Hill]. He said that he was sorry, but he really didn't feel his game was up to speed to start playing this early." -- Golf Channel

Billy Payne, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club: "We support Tiger's decision to return to competitive golf beginning at this year's Masters Tournament," Payne said in a statement. "Additionally, we support and encourage his stated commitment to continue the significant work required to rebuild his personal and professional life."

PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem: "We were pleased to learn that Tiger Woods will be playing the Masters in a few weeks. He has invested a lot of time taking steps, both in his personal and professional life, in order to prepare for his return.  We all wish him and his family the best as he rejoins the Tour." -- pgatour.com

Mark O'Meara: "Augusta is the perfect venue for him to [return]. He's had such great success there." -- Golf Channel

Padraig Harrington: "It's obviously great for golf that he's back. It shows the commitment he has to his family. If he came back earlier, that would give him a better chance at Augusta. He would have been putting golf first. Putting his family first by not warming up for Augusta, it's a good statement." -- Associated Press

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin: "I'm glad he's coming back. I hope he plays well and makes the team. I'd like to have him on the team because I think he's a pretty good player." -- Associated Press

Y.E. Yang: Tiger, Tiger, Tiger -- Twitter

Stewart Cink: Wow I've had a lot of calls today from friends who have decided to come to the Masters this year. -- Twitter

Heath Slocum: “Obviously, the ratings will be off the chart. It will be interesting to watch –
not only the reaction from him, but from the fans, the media, the players. I would venture to say he might be nervous.” -- Associated Press

Royal & Ancient spokesman Malcolm Booth: “We’re pleased to hear that Tiger is to return to golf. … Golf needs the world No. 1 to be playing." -- Associated Press

Notah Begay III: "I feel like the players are going to be just happy to have him back and hopefully allow him to continue to repair his personal issues in privacy." -- Golf Channel
