Truth & Rumors: Phil Mickelson's ex-coach says Hank Haney book violates code

Posted at 11:44 AM by Ryan Reiterman | Categories: Hank Haney, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Truth & Rumors

It was only a matter of time before Hank Haney's fellow instructors to the stars started weighing in on his decision to write a book about his famous pupil, Tiger Woods. Butch Harmon, who's coached three of the biggest names in the game -- Woods, Phil Mickelson and Greg Norman -- said he didn't have a problem with Haney writing a book. But Rick Smith, Mickelson's former coach, told ESPN's Farrell Evans that Haney "broke the code."

"I would rather be broke and not have a penny to my name before I violate the code of player-teacher confidentiality," Smith said. "In 27 years out here, I've never done that. I'm personally upset with Hank because he's broken and violated our code of ethics. If you have the opportunity and you're privileged to conversations, you will not and should not share anything from them with anyone. I don't care who it is.

"For all the guys who have committed their lives to teaching, this should be very upsetting and I know that I'm not the only one that feels this way. What Hank did is against the rules."

At this week's Kia Classic, the LPGA's Irene Cho filmed an episode for Animal Planet's "Who Let the Dogs Out" starring Tillman, a skateboarding bulldog. Yes, that's right, a skateboarding bulldog. Take that, Lassie! Check out the video here.

Room(s) with a View
Ohio State head football coach Urban Meyer has finally settled into a new home in Columbus, and he won't have to go far to work on his short game. Meyer's $1.45 million home is right off the seventh green at Muirfield Village. The Columbus Dispatch has the details.

The Meyers closed last week on the Dunsinane Drive home, which has been on and off the market since 2010.

The home features seven bedrooms, four full baths and four half baths on nearly 2 acres overlooking the seventh green of the Muirfield Village Golf Club in a gated portion of the Dublin golf community. The property also includes an in-ground pool, four fireplaces and a billiard room.

“It’s really a beautiful home, with lots of great living space,” said Ron Cadieux, a managing partner with the Raines Group, the Real Living HER agency that listed the home. “It has a very, very nice yard, both front and back, and even though it’s on the championship golf course, it offers lots of privacy.”
