Sergio Garcia plays tennis with Daniela Hantuchova at U.S. Open
NEW YORK -- Sergio Garcia may have pulled out of this week's Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston to rest before the Ryder Cup, but he's not lounging at home of the sofa.
On Tuesday afternoon the Spaniard, who won the Wyndham Championship two weeks ago and tied for third last week at the Barclays Championship, was on the Practice Court 1 Tuesday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., hitting tennis balls with 5-foot-11 Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova.
Although Garcia spent most of his time on the court assisting Hantuchova by picking up stray tennis balls, the two exchanged forehards and backhands on a few occasions, with Garcia flashing a sweet topspin forehard that he no doubt groomed on the red clay courts of Spain.
Hantuchova, 29, lost in singles on Monday to fellow Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the 17th seed here at the U.S. Open, but she is still in the women's doubles the mixed doubles events.
Garcia loves tennis, and years before dating Greg Norman's daughter, Morgan-Leigh, he had a relationship with Martina Hingis.Who knows, maybe Garcia and Hantuchova can set up a mixed double game against Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki in Chicago during the Ryder Cup?
