McIlroy nearly misses tee time after time zone mix-up

Posted at 11:29 PM by Golf.com | Categories: Rory McIlroy, Ryder Cup

Rory McIlroy needed a police escort to make it to Medinah in time for his singles match against Keegan Bradley on Sunday.

NBC reported that McIlroy had learned his match time by watching TV, which was reporting the schedule in Eastern time. Thus, McIlroy thought he was playing at 12:25 p.m., but the match was actually set for 11:25 a.m. Chicago time. McIlroy hit a few putts but didn't have time to go to the range before the start of his match, which he ended up winning, 2 and 1.

The incident does raise a few questions: How did he make it to the rest of this week's matches in time, and where was his caddie this morning? NBC said that the team had traveled as a group all week, so McIlroy was caught off guard on this day of individual matches.
