Truth & Rumors: Rory McIlroy puts Belfast home on the market
Rory McIlroy is looking to take his money out of Moneyreagh.
The World No. 1 is asking £2 million (about $3.25 million) for his old homestead in the appropriately named Belfast suburb, which he bought in 2009, according to the Press Association, a British news agency.
The five-bedroom property was built in 2006. Set on 14 acres, it includes a driving range, a putting green, and a gym set in an "adjoining refurbished stone barn." Where do I sign?
McIlroy, of course, keeps a pretty busy schedule and spends much of his time in the U.S. to play on the PGA Tour. And, while his parents still live in Northern Ireland, news of this listing seems to hit on some insecurity among fans on his home isle:
"The sale will heighten speculation that McIlroy will now seek to live abroad permanently, possibly Florida - especially after he caused public controversy in Northern Ireland and the Republic earlier this month when he indicated he would play golf for Team GB in the 2016 Rio Olympics."
If there's any question how big McIlroy is in Ireland, consider this: When the Irish Independent ran the wire article, they filed it under "breaking, national news." Good luck, kid.
