Live tweets from 'The Re-Match' at Cypress, featuring Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler vs. Davis Love and Nick Watney
SI's Alan Shipnuck tweeted from the hush-hush charity match at Cypress Point today, which featured Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler vs. Davis Love and Fred Couples Nick Watney, who stepped in as a last-minute replacement:
There was very little wind. The greens were quick but receptive. This proud old golf course, at 6,524 yards, provided a stirring test.

Scores... Love 35-32, 67. Bubba: 37-33, 70. Watney: 36-35, 71. Rickie: 37-36, 73.

18 is 343 on the card, big dogleg right, uphill, very tight. Bubba's ball is 20 paces short of the green.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
It's over. Love-Watney close 'em out on 17. Sea lions bark in the distance.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Correction: Bubba's tee ball caught a tree and never came down. It's all on Fowler to extend the match.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
OK, Bubba just drove it over the cypress trees in the middle of 17 fairway. That's macho.

Fred's back went out, Watney got the call on Sun. @TomAndBothered: Was Nick a late sub for Freddy? Or was that just a small mis-tweet? - Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Davis Love, ladies and gentleman!! His birdie at 16 puts he and Watney 2-up.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Davis pured a 3-iron to 10'. Of course I missed that shot.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Fowler with a duece on 15! He and Bubba are 1-down heading to a par-3 you may be familiar with.

Capt. Love at 15. I'm standing one foot from the edge of the ocean. twitter.com/AlanShipnuck/s…

Maybe my favorite green complex there is, the 13th. All 4 guys birdied this one, Love-Watney are still 2-up. twitter.com/AlanShipnuck/s…
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
11 and 12 halved with pars. No one is gonna threaten Hogan's 63 from 1956.

The first 10 holes at Cypress are great. 11 thru 17 is, quite simply, the best golf on the planet. The 11th green: twitter.com/AlanShipnuck/s…

Watney trickles in a gorgeous 30' for eagle on 10, he and Love go 2-up.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Bubba gets up-and-down on 8 to match Love's birdie. On 9, one of golf's great short 4s, all go for the green. 3 bunkered, Fowler on fringe.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Bubba tries to drive 8! Finds the front bunker. Gotta love the kid's spunk, if not his course management.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) ">October 9, 2012
6 is halved w/birdies, Love-Watney remain 1-up. Watney is playing the best golf of the bunch. Just in case Love needs more second-guessing.

The gorgeous 6th green. Three eagle putts coming. (Bubba is fighting his swing, which is a blast to watch.) twitter.com/AlanShipnuck/s…

Yes, the Stanford Invitational in a couple of weeks. Open to the public. RT@codeine_ccc Will a big time tourney ever be played at Cypress?
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Watney with the best drive. From 187, uphill, he reaches with a 5-iron.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Bombs away on par-5 5th, first of back-to-back 3-shotters. (Or, 2-shotters for these guys). CP also has consecutive par-3s. #Mackenzie

There are US Presidents here and various golf aristocrats but best gallery spot is LPGA's Blair O'Neal. She played here y'day. "Shot even."
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
4th hole has some of Mackenzie's loveliest bunkering. Lotsa talk on the tee. 3 layup, Bubba blows driver into forest. twitter.com/AlanShipnuck/s…
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Thru 3, evert hole's been won w/a birdie. Love is 1-up w/his last-minute replacement partner, Nick Watney.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
There's a wonderful intimacy to this gathering: no gallery ropes, just walk along with the players. I spent the stroll up 2 talking w/Davis.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
How will the modern pro play Cypress? The first hole, at 420, is the second-longest par-4. Bubba had 96 yards left.
- Alan Shipnuck (@AlanShipnuck) October 9, 2012
Bubba's opening tee shot. Long, not surprisingly. twitter.com/AlanShipnuck/s…

Great scene here on the first tee at Cypress Point: Ken Venturi reliving his memories of the Match in 1956. #TheMatch2 twitter.com/AlanShipnuck/s…

Have you heard about tomorrow's top-secret The Match II at Cypress Point tomorrow, with Freddy/Davis vs. Bubba/Rickie? Me, neither.
