Truth & Rumors: Tiger's Turkey tournament on schedule despite escalating violence

Officials for the Turkish World Finals say that the increasingly hot confrontation between Turkey and neighboring Syria won't affect the golf tournament, which has Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in the field, according to Tony Jimenez of Reuters.

Sunday marked the fifth straight day of fire exchanged between the Turkish military and forces loyal to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, who have been fighting rebels through northern Syria, just across the border from Turkey, according to Jimenez's report.

But, tournament officials said Monday that the World Finals, which is held in Belek, far from the Syrian border, will continue as planned with Tuesday's first round.

The $5.3 million dollar purse has a first prize of $1.5 million. Woods and McIlroy will be joined in the eight-man field by Lee Westwood, Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan, Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson and Charl Schwartzel.
