Obama received golf gifts from French President in 2011
According to a release by the Department of State, in 2011 Barack Obama received two crystal golf statuettes, a golf club travel bag and an accessory bag from Nicolas Sarkozy, the former French President.
Obama received a "large, black Hermes golf accessory bag including set of lock and key, and extra strap in bottom compartment, presented in cream colored drawstring bag" valued at $7,750 on Jan. 11, 2011 from His Excellency Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the French Republic, and Mrs. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, First Lady of the French Republic.
Later in the year, Sarkozy presented Obama with a "crystal golf statuette by Baccarat, depicting a golfer with his iron pitched over his head in the moment before striking a ball, a crystal golf statuette by Baccarat, depicting a golfer with his iron out in front in a follow-through posture and a black Hermes golf travel bag with canvas cover and carrying strap" all valued at $1,650.
Each gift was accepted, because rejecting the gift would "cause embarrassment to donor and U.S. Government."
The same year at a G-20 Summit, Sarkozy -- unaware his words were being broadcast to reporters -- informed Obama that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was a liar during a meeting.
Should have just asked him where Obama displayed the golf statuettes in the White House
