DeLaet's playoff beard leads surge toward Tour Championship

Posted at 3:32 PM by Pete Madden | Categories: FedEx Cup, Graham DeLaet

The playoff beard is as Canadian as maple syrup, and Graham DeLaet says the stubble is here to stay.

The 31-year-old Saskatchewan native has been sporting some serious cheek fuzz since the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs at The Barclays, an ode to the ice hockey tradition that makes the NHL playoffs look like an annual werewolf convention.

"I'm Canadian. That's what we do in the playoffs," DeLaet told Simon Evans of Reuters. "You don't shave until you're done."

Whether strategy or superstition, it's working. After impressive finishes at both The Barclays (tied for second) and the Deutsche Bank Championship (alone in third), DeLaet has moved into fifth place in the FedEx Cup standings, 1,245 points behind leader Henrik Stenson, and earned a spot on the International Presidents Cup team.

He might not be the first golfer to bring a hockey attitude to the golf links, but if DeLaet takes home the Tour Championship at East Lake later this month, you can bet that he won't be the last.
