@JasonDufner, @bubbawatson, @TheChristinaKim

Three golfers -- Jason Dufner, Bubba Watson and Christina Kim -- were named in the third installment of Sports Illustrated's Twitter 100, accounts "essential to [SI and staffers'] daily routine for finding news, information and entertainment from the sports world."

@JasonDufner has ridden the #Dufnering meme to social media stardom:

The 2013 PGA Championship winner may be a stoic figure on the course, but off it, he’s extremely engaging (despite his demeanor in the photo that launched the Dufnering meme). When he tees it up on Twitter, Dufner comes across as an everyday guy sharing his opinions on football and current events.

@bubbawatson scores points for honesty and accessibility:

The 2012 Masters champion isn't the most prolific of athletes on Twitter, but that doesn’t diminish the pleasure of the Florida native’s sunny, laid-back and always irreverent feed. Sharing a look inside his life on the green and as a father, Watson also engages with his followers through his #BubbaTalk hashtag.

@TheChristinaKim is just enjoying the journey:

With candor, style, irrepressible charisma and honesty, Kim lets you in on the life of a professional golfer. She tweets from everywhere – and tweets often – about her life, her game, her losing luggage and whatever else is on her mind. She’s also well-connected to players on the PGA Tour, and it’s fun to follow her stream of consciousness (and instructional takes) during a PGA event. A must-follow for any golf fan.

Michelle Wie's caddie also dates her best friend

Posted at 12:02 PM by Coleman McDowell

166847346Talk about a conflict of interests.

Duncan French is a caddie. He is the boyfriend of LPGA pro Christina Kim, currently ranked No. 217 in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.

The only problem? He also caddies for Michelle Wie, who happens to be best friends with his girlfriend.

Could this end well?

In a Q&A with Marlborough Express, French discussed his road from a scratch golfer who caddied on the European Tour to being on the bag for one of the highest profile golfers in LPGA history with a short stint caddying for his own girlfriend.

We have been very good friends ever since I have been on tour. Michelle and my girlfriend are best friends on the tour. Michelle's old caddie [Kiwi Brendan Woolley] left at the end of last year to go to the PGA Tour so she was looking for a new caddie and gave me a call. I jumped at the chance to work with her.

But the obvious question: how does your girlfriend feel about it?

She is very supportive. Being a great friend of Michelle she wants her to play to her full potential, which is very, very high. She wants what is best for both of us and, at this stage, Michelle and I are both in a good place so [Christina] is very supportive and happy.

Several dynamics are at play here. If French and Kim's relationship ends, can Wie, being her best friend, continue to employ him? If Wie's performance doesn't improve with French on the bag -- her best finish is a tie for 28th this year -- could she fire her best friend's boyfriend? Could competitiveness or jealousy emerge between Wie and Kim? So many possibilties.

At the very least, French could help Wie with her putting stroke.

Truth & Rumors: Awkward Masters handshake, and Christina Kim vs. Bubba

Posted at 2:05 PM by Mick Rouse

We've all been there: a handshake that goes awry. Except for most of us, the awkward encounter isn't captured on live television. During the Masters. While receiving the coveted green jacket. Enter Masters champ Bubba Watson and chairman of Augusta National Billy Payne.

As Payne instructs 2010 Master's champion Charl Schwartzel to present Bubba with his green jacket, Bubba mistakes Payne's outstretched hand as an offer of congratulations. With a sly move that suggests this isn't the first time this has happened in his life, Bubba swivels to offer his now outstretched hand to Schwartzel. Payne, a little slow on the uptake, then realizes Bubba was trying to shake his hand, but offers his back a fraction of a second too late and receives a whole lot of Bubba's cold, cruel shoulder. Commence awkward face scratch. This encounter would probably be a whole lot more embarrassing if not for the fact that Bubba just won the freakin' Masters. In fact, I think it may raise a more important question: Could the Masters green jacket ceremony be any more boring?

'Bashful Prince' Ishikawa finds his princess

After another lackluster showing at the Masters (he's missed the cut three out of four times), Ryo Ishikawa returned home to Japan where legions of disappointed fans and reporters awaited. According to The Wall Street Journal, though, Ishikawa's Masters performance was quickly forgotten as he announced upon arrival that he is now engaged to his junior high school sweetheart.

“I turned 20, so I feel like it’s a good time to make this decision,” Ishikawa said, referring to his coming of age in Japan.

While Ryo remained mum on the identity of his wife-to-be, not even revealing her first name, he did reveal that her father wasn't the only person whose blessing he sought.

Back in Japan, Ishikawa’s face is ubiquitous both on and off the green. He was the face for 17 ad campaigns from Panasonic to Lotte in 2011, appearing in more commercials than any other male celebrity for the third year running, according to market researcher Nihon Monitor.

“I informed my sponsors last month,” Ishikawa said. “And I got their blessing.”

Christina Kim goes OFF on Bubba on Twitter

In case you hadn't heard, Christina Kim isn't the biggest fan of Bubba Watson. Therefore, it was no surprise that Bubba's name would be brought up while Kim tweeted through the final round of the Masters. It all began when one of Kim's followers became upset that Christina was tweeting her support for Lee Westwood and Louis Oosthuizen as opposed to a fellow American--specifically Bubba.

Kim was just warming up. Over the next three hours or so, she let loose a barrage on the Masters winner. Luckily for you, we've extracted the highlights of Kim's candid tweets.

Following his playoff victory, Kim held back on the Bubba bashing, offering up a seemingly sincere congratulations.

This is surely the end to it all, right? RIGHT?! Wrong. Apparently Kim's attempt to take the high road further incensed Bubba's fans.

How did it all round out? With Bubba interjecting his two cents? Not quite.

Sometimes I wonder what we did for entertainment before Twitter...

Tweet of the Day

Bubba Watson didn't get in on Christina Kim's Twitter rant, but that's probably because he couldn't get his phone to stop ringing.

Bubba did make his presence known in this mini-Twitter feud featuring Piers Morgan, though.

Truth & Rumors: Phil Mickelson to skip WGC-Accenture Match Play

Posted at 11:41 AM by Mick Rouse

Following his tie for 49th place at the Humana Challenge, Phil Mickelson announced that he would be skipping next month’s WGC-Accenture Match Play. Alex Miceli has the story:

Mickelson, playing in the Humana Challenge for the first time in five years, has a conflict with his children’s spring break and, as in the past, will take the week off to vacation with his three children and wife, Amy, during the Feb. 22-26 Match Play.

“I'm going to end up missing the Match Play this year as we're going to go on a family trip,” Mickelson, No. 15 in the Official World Golf Ranking, said Sunday after completing his third round here. “So as I miss that tournament, it was easier to add this one, too.”

Those wanting more of Lefty won’t have to look hard to find him. Mickelson will be making his rounds on the West Coast over the next few weeks, playing the Farmers Insurance Open, Waste Management Phoenix Open, AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and Northern Trust Open before taking a week off with the family for a little R&R.

Coming to America

Chubby Chandler may have lost his brightest star in Rory McIlroy, but that hasn’t deterred ISM’s head honcho from seeking out new talent. Expect many of those new clients to bleed red, white and blue. While speaking with Golf Talk Central, Chandler stated that he would sign more American players this year than Europeans.

Chandler recently set up shop in South Florida, ISM’s new American base, and has signed Peter Uihlein and Ben An in the last two months alone.

Rex Hoggard of Golf Talk Central is also reporting that Steve Zika will take the lead on ISM’s descent into the American talent pool:

GTC has confirmed through various sources that Steve Zika, a longtime tour representative for Ping, will be ISM’s American front-man.

Zika was with Ping for a dozen years and worked with the company’s PGA Tour team since 2001. It was during this time that Zika fostered a relationship with Lee Westwood, No. 2 in the World Golf Ranking and a longtime member of Chandler’s stable.

Bubba gets a new ride

Contrary to what Christina Kim thinks, Bubba Watson apparently can have it all. This past weekend, Watson became the proud new owner of the original General Lee car from the “Dukes of Hazzard.” While at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., Bubba tweeted a photo of the legendary vehicle:

Roughly five hours later, Watson sent out a follow-up tweet, exclaiming, “Just got my dream car!!!”

Never one to shy away from the send button, Bubba has since continued to tweet about his new prized possession, including this picture of him gassing up the General:

Watson has also contacted Notorious Whips with plans of customizing the classic Dodge Charger, including a complete restore of the inside.

And before you even ask, yes, the horn still works.

All in all, the General Lee set Bubba back a mere $110,000. Not too shabby considering he owns a watch worth more than four times that. Hey Bubba, just make sure you keep an eye out for Roscoe

Tweets of the Week: Michelle Wie's pie, Ian Poulter's cut and Darren Clarke's loafers

Posted at 2:27 PM by David Dusek

Thanksgiving Tweets
Plenty of golfers gave thanks via Twitter for their blessings on Thursday. Here are three of the most unique messages.

The Prince's New Clothes
Chubby Chandler (@chubby6665) is Darren Clarke's (@DarrenClarke60) agent and close friend. Why he chose to take a photo of Clarke, whose nickname is The Prince, we don't know, but Christina Kim (@TheCristinaKim) seemed to like it.

Johnson fishes big too
Dustin Johnson (@DJohnsonPGA) is known for being one of the biggest hitters in golf. Looks like he's a big hitter on the high seas too.

Ian's injury
Luckily for Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter), his sunglasses will probably hide his shaving mishap.

Major opportunity
When it's off-season for golfers, they tend to hit the slopes or the beaches, but when tennis star Andy Roddick's season is over, he heads to the course. A very nice course.

Christina Kim calls Bubba's behavior in Paris 'disgraceful'

Posted at 2:55 PM by

Bubba Watson's European trip is going about as well as it did for the Griswolds. Watson has been hammered by the press at the French Open for his inability to name iconic Paris landmarks, and for complaints about the food and fan behavior.

Now Watson is taking heat on Twitter. It started with ESPN's Bob Harig tweeting a link to this story detailing Watson's troubles. LPGA star Christina Kim, who plays several times a year on the Ladies European Tour, didn't hold back her feelings on Bubba's behavior. A few samples below ...

Tweets of the Day: Thursday at the 2011 Masters

Posted at 6:58 PM by

Rory-McIlroy_298x240 Christina Kim, LPGA golfer: Apparently Phil brought out the wrong one of the two drivers today. Whoops.

More from Christina: Wow. Really liking the transformation in @TigerWoods' swing all of a sudden. Looks very.... Tigeresque in my opinion

Rory McIlory, Pro golfer: Thanks to @winmcmurry for the tweets I've had today comparing me to a Victorian women! Won't be getting an interview anytime soon!! ;)

More from Rory, one of Time Magazine’s 140 best on Twitter: Thanks for all the messages today! Such a great start to the tournament but still a very long way to go!

Steve Elling,  Wow, Phil's purple shirt certainly matches nicely with that forest of azealeas he just hit his sideways drive into on No. 13.

Alan Shipnuck, Sports Illustrated: It's dehumanizing to have to hide in a bathroom stall in Amen Corner to check email/voice mail/Twitter/Facebook. Or so I've heard.

Dan Jenkins, Golf Digest: One of the secrets to McIlroy's success may be his short haircut. He no longer looks like Barbara Streisand

Paul Mahoney, European golf writer: Fowler dressed head to toe in Augusta green. Looks like a petrol attendant. +1 thru 10. Running out of gas?

Lawrence Donegan, The Guardian (UK):  Slow play = disrepect to others in the group. McIlroy/Fowler rolling their eyes and smiling at the antics of Day.

Gary Van Sickle, Sports Illustrated: Pretty sure Luke Donald isn't going to WD from Masters because of Par 3 jinx. Dumber than SI jinx. Less dumb than hit-by-truck jinx.

Norm MacDonald: Comedian
Masters has begun.Phil Mickelson paired with Geoff Ogilvy and Peter Uihlein. John Daly paired with Jack Daniels and Jim Beam.

Jhonny Vegas, Pro golfer:  Day 1 of the Masters. Excited and ready to play. Dia 1 del Masters. Muy emocionado y listo para jugar. Here we go. Aqui Vamos.
