Graeme McDowell opens bar at Nona Blue even before Harbour Town victory

Posted at 1:27 PM by Cameron Morfit

Graeme-McDowellGraeme McDowell sent champagne to the press tent after winning the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, so it came as no surprise when he said he would celebrate his future victories in part by buying a round for patrons of his new upscale pub and restaurant, Nona Blue.

He did one better Sunday.

Even before beating Webb Simpson in a one-hole, sudden-death playoff at the RBC Heritage at breezy Hilton Head on Sunday, McDowell called the restaurant to set up a round for those watching the golf on TV. McDowell won with a par on the first extra hole, and with his entourage made the 300-mile trek south back to Orlando and rolled into Nona Blue around midnight to celebrate the victory in person.

"It was pretty subdued and relaxed just because Graeme was so exhausted," Bill Bona, a founding partner in the restaurant and one of the hosts of The Leaderboard golf radio show, told Golf.com. "There weren't too many people still here when he showed up with his caddie and some friends. Ironically his parents had just gone back to Ireland that morning, and they'd been here since like the Honda Classic."

Bona said McDowell is expected to be on The Leaderboard show from 7-8 ET tonight, and fans can hit the Listen Live link to catch the interview.

Graeme McDowell speaks out about gallery noise

Posted at 1:32 PM by Samantha Glover

UPDATE: Look closely at McDowell's left hand at 0:17 in Golfwerkz.com's video to see the gesture he makes while calling a spectator a wanker.

After a spectator at Tiger Woods's World Challenge caused a stir by calling Keegan Bradley a cheater, tournament winner Graeme McDowell spoke out against boorish fan behavior. Here are the highlights of his post-round press conference:

And let's hope there's not too much more of that going on out there. I'm kind of fed up with all this "mashed potatoes" and all this rubbish that the crowd are kind of enjoying shouting right now.

Keegan had a guy out there who was after every shot he was yabba dabba doing and it was just stupid. It's something for the players, it's not a lot of fun and it's kind of becoming a little bit of a cool thing to do for the spectators. It kind of gives them their two or three seconds of fame. But it gets a little frustrating for everyone.

Thanks to the media attention focused on Bradley, McDowell didn't catch much heat Sunday for calling a spectator a "wanker" during his round. Still, the Irishman took to twitter to apologize.

Truth & Rumors: G-Mac gets engaged atop Dubai hotel

Graeme McDowell may not win this week's DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. But we're not sure he'll care.

Why, you ask? Because he won the practice rounds.

On a trip to Dubai two weeks ago to see the competition course, McDowell proposed to long-time girlfriend Kristin Stape, according to a Golf Channel report. McDowell took his knee on a rooftop helipad 656 feet off the ground:

"I did it properly, getting down on one knee," he explained while preparing for this week's season finale on the European Tour. "She was very shocked and had no idea what was going on."

Apparently, "shocked" and "no idea what was going on" were positive reactions, even atop a 656 foot helipad because she said yes.

McDowell's close friend Rory McIlroy congratulated the couple on Twitter.

Truth & Rumors: Graeme McDowell claims research shows long putters have advantage

Posted at 11:19 AM by Samantha Glover

Graeme McDowell said that USGA executive director Mike Davis told him research shows that long putters have an advantage, according to the Herald Sun, an Australian newspaper.

"They're convinced the research has shown that under pressure on a Sunday afternoon the long putter just kind of takes one extraneous movement out of the putting stroke," McDowell said at Kingston Heath.

"I think it's probably something they're disappointed in themselves that it's got to this point. They probably should have nipped it in the bud many, many years ago."

Ian Poulter, who is in Australia with McDowell for the Australian Masters, agreed.

"Ban it. End of story," the Englishman said. "I mean, don't anchor the butt end of the club. It's simple, right?"

The possibility of a ban on long putters and belly putters has divided professional golf. Tiger Woods has already gone on record supporting the ban, Phil Mickelson spoke out against the ban, and Keegan Bradley said he would consider legal action if the USGA and R&A decided to outlaw the anchored putter.

Truth and Rumors: Graeme McDowell plays on after injuring hand in hotel door

Posted at 9:54 AM by Golf.com

After catching his hand in a hotel door Friday morning, Graeme McDowell played through pain to post a three-over 75 at the WGC-HSBC Champions.

McDowell's manager, Conor Ridge, confirmed that McDowell bruised his hand when he shut it in a door before the second round in Shenzhen, China. Ridge told Golf Channel that he thought McDowell would continue to play this tournament, and the other events he has scheduled for 2012.

"He's not going to want to miss any of them," Ridge noted. "He won't want to miss the last two rounds here, let's be honest. Hopefully he's OK, but knowing him he'd have to be pretty bad not to play."

In addition to the final two rounds at the HSBC, McDowell is scheduled to play the Australian Masters (Nov. 15-18), the World Tour Championship in Dubai (Nov. 22-25) and Tiger Woods's World Challenge in California (Nov. 29-Dec. 2).

McDowell tweeted about the injury and to let fans know that he would continue to play:

Tiger Woods's tournament gets new sponsor, star-studded field

Posted at 3:09 PM by Mark Dee

The field is set for Tiger's tournament.

The 2012 World Challenge will feature 18 of the world's top 28 players and will be sponsored for the first time by Northwestern Mutual, according to a statement released online by the Tiger Woods Foundation, the charity the event benefits.

Thirteen Ryder Cuppers will be in the field gunning for the $1 million first prize. There's no cut, so even last place takes home $120,000. Not a bad weekend, spent playing for a good cause: Proceeds go toward "the college-access programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation."

The tournament itself takes place from Nov. 28-Dec. 2 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Tiger Woods is your defending champion, which shouldn't come as a surprise: Last year was his fifth win at the World Challenge.

Joining Woods in the field will be Americans Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Steve Stricker, Bubba Watson, Nick Watney, Bo Van Pelt, Hunter Mahan, and Rickie Fowler; Europeans Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell; and Australian Jason Day.
