Song-Hee Kim a sleeper pick at the U.S. Women's Open

If you're looking for a lurker at the U.S. Women's Open this weekend, consider Song-Hee Kim. The 2006 Duramed Futures tour champion fired a tidy two-under 69 at Saucon Valley on Friday to go into the weekend at one over, putting her in a tie for sixth place, four strokes behind leader Cristie Kerr. Averaging a respectable 255 yards on her drives, Kim used her easy, rhythmic swing to dissect the tight and tough track, hitting 11 of 14 fairways. Even when she missed, as she did at the par-4 8th (her 17th hole), she deftly got up and down. For the day, Kim took only 25 putts, the same number as Paula Creamer, who's in second place, one stroke in back of Kerr.

Now in her third season on the LPGA tour, Kim has yet to win. But in 2009, she has five top 10s, including a T-9 at the McDonald's LPGA Classic and a T-3 last week at the Jamie Farr, and has earned $509,623. As if Kim needs more incentive, an Open win would make a dandy birthday present: She turns 21 next Thursday.
